During its trajectory, the Hogar Jesus de Nazareth has demonstrated constant growth as a project that  is essential and fundamental for the children in Puerto Rico.  This growth is reflected in the number of children cared for and the amount of required personnel, both administrative and caregiving.  This growth has also brought administrative, operational and recreative complexities which require planning at a macro level to achieve future continuous and homogeneous growth.
After a meeting with members of the board and representatives of the different areas, we were able to identify key needs that were used as a base for this master plan.  These points are: redistribution of the program throughout the site, additional administrative offices, salvage and re-use of existing buildings, reconnection with nature, additional exterior and interior play areas, increased children’s security, and a new building to provide additional services  
The Master plan presents a new way of distributing the program, placing the administrative and public uses towards the front of the site and the leaving the housing areas towards the back of the site.  This strategy is proposed to mitigate the current risk posed by the current circulation through the children dedicated areas.  Understanding this privacy requirements, the administrative offices are now to be relocated to the old chapel building, which is located at the site entry.   
The plan also proposed a new building to house the community services next to the chapel. This new building is intended to create a hybrid, dynamic space where psychology services, social work services, nursery, kids’ recreational areas and multipurpose areas for group and the community merge together to form a state-of-the-art center.  This new structure will also be position so as to create a physical barrier between the street and the new park & kids’ housing areas, Accessibility was also a big driver in this proposal, we believe that all spaces should be reachable by any person with motor or visual disabilities. Therefore, we have implemented ramps throughout the site, and have relocated the kitchen and dining areas to where the current administrative offices are.  Lastly, this master plan looks to reconnect all the areas with nature, creating new green spaces, parks, vegetable and herb gardens, bicycle trails and access to contemplative areas populated with trees. 
The master plan unifies the identified needs in an organized idea with the intension of providing the Board a tool to make long term decisions. The master plan also serves as a preamble to the discussion of relocating areas, circulation throughout the site, security, and phasing/ implementation for future growth and construction scheduling.
